Best Pump Paintball Guns: My Battle-Tested Picks for 2020!

I have owned, shot, and played with nearly every pump paintball marker to have hit the market in the past 10 years.  They are leaps and bounds better in comparison to those of the decade prior and are jammed pack with even more features.

Below are what I would suggest for most any player looking to pick up a new pump. The list will cover all skill levels while not being too expensive or require a lot of maintenance.

My Top 5 Pump Paintball Markers:

  1. Azodin KPC
  2. Azodin KP3.5
  3. CCI Phantom
  4. Autococker Pump Kits
  5. Inception Designs Retro Hornet Pump Marker

Azodin KPC

For those of you wanting to get into the pump paintball world on a budget, you will be hard pressed to find a better pump paintball marker at for the price of the Azodin KPC.

This is the baby brother of the proven Azodin KP3, all the functionality and reliability at a lower price point.  The internals and shot quality are exactly the same, if you were to shoot them side by side you wouldn’t notice the difference.

This is designed with the beginner in mind, the regulator is preset and non adjustable so you always know the pressure is correct.  Velocity adjustment is easily changed from the rear velocity adjuster and comes with a very nice one piece 14″ barrel with a 0.685″ bore.

Without a doubt, this is one of the best budget pump markers for the money.

Azodin KP3.5

This is the Azodin KPC but with all the features like a clamping feedneck, adjustable regulator, on/off ASA, super comfortable dual rod delrin pump handle, and two piece barrel with 0.685 and 0.681 backs.

For the price, there is a lot of bang for your buck!  I liked the KP3.5 so much, that I replaced my custom built Autococker Pump and never looked back.  The only real difference that I noticed was the trigger pull, but when on the field the difference was unnoticeable.

If you want to get into pump play, or want to get a really nice pump marker in general, pick yourself up a KP3.5 and call it a day.  You really won’t find a better new open class pump for the price.

CCI Phantom

CCI Phantom in a VSC configureation
CCI Phantom in a vertical stock class setup. No extra hopper or tank is needed and is super small and light.

I’m going to keep my bias to a minimum but this is my favorite pump platform available.  I have been using phantoms since 2008 and can’t keep them out of my gearbag.

These are by far the most versatile pumps available and with all the parts on the market, you can have this in any configuration you wish.  You can run it open class with vertical or angled feeds or stock class with horizontal feed or spring feed.  There are undercocking kits, bottomline setups, 12 gram CO2 changers, or tank out the back.  The possibilities are endless.

Not only does this marker have a plethora of setups, but it is super reliable and can keep up with you no matter how hard you run them.  Plus, it comes standard with an auto-trigger so you can dish out the paint if needed.

As an added kicker, this marker is super efficient.  I run one of my Phantoms purely on 12 gram CO2 cartrages and easily get 30-35 shots per 12 gram.  Combine that with the marker being super light, you have a wonderful setup that you can run around with all day without fatigue.

Autococker Pump Kits

Quite a few people have autocockers on hand and quite a few of them are set up in a pump configuration.  This is with good reason, cockers with pump kits have one of the smoothest pump strokes and you can adjust the trigger for the most satisfying pull.

The used market for 2k+ autocockers is quite large and there are enough parts, both new and used, to build up your own cocker pump in exactly the specification that you want.  I’ve built my own cocker pumps in the past and with the amount of information online, just about anyone can build their own with ease.

You don’t have to build your own, there are a plethora of used cockers on the market in just about every configuration you would want.
